Gynaecology and obstetrics - Description

The Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department is one of the CHIREC Centres of Excellence.
It is spread across four sites: Edith Cavell Clinic, Braine-l'Alleud - Waterloo Hospital, Parc Leopold Clinic and Basilique Clinic.

Mother and Child Centres are located at Cavell and Braine-l'Alleud, which are home to our maternity and paediatrics services.

With more than 4,500 births per year, CHIREC is one of the largest providers of care for mothers, babies and families.
Highly qualified teams of obstetricians, paediatric neonatologists and midwives, supported by psychologists, social workers and physiotherapists, work together to provide a high standard of care and treatment.

A high-risk pregnancy unit (MIC) provides intensive treatment for all conditions that may affect mothers or their babies.
A specialist neonatology unit (NIC) looks after newborn babies who are in difficulty, regardless of their age or weight.

A large number of transfers in utero take place from other maternity units to CHIREC, which demonstrates the excellence of our maternity services.

Consultations with renowned specialists are available at all our sites.
There are no medical students or trainee assistants.

Gynaecological pelvic and breast surgery takes place on all our sites, as does surgery for cancer.
Gynaecological oncology services are integrated within the CHIREC Cancer Institute.

In the context of treatment for cancer, patients are looked after by multidisciplinary teams whose specially trained doctors have signed a Quality Charter, which is unique in Belgium. They are consequently committed to providing the best possible services in line with the latest treatments and recommendations. This Charter is available to anyone who wishes to receive a copy.

The department enjoys an international reputation and maintains a clear focus on the patient and her family.
A personalised service, with access to the best care, is guaranteed.
The range of medical services available also includes a particularly effective Medically Assisted Procreation service.
