Respiratory Medicine - Description
The Respiratory Medicine Unit is part of the General Internal Medicine Department.
Outpatient care is provided with the help of a full range of the very latest equipment: a laboratory for pulmonary function tests, video endoscopy and echoendoscopy equipment, etc.
The unit works closely with the medical imaging department for ultrasound-guided lung needle biopsies. It also has links with the sleep laboratory in relation to research into apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome.
Our specialists also work closely with the CHIREC Cancer Institute, the medical oncology unit, radiotherapy and thoracic surgery to provide multidisciplinary treatment for lung cancer.
They also work with specialist physiotherapists for all patients with chronic respiratory failure who need respiratory rehabilitation.
The unit provides an on-call emergency endoscopy service for patients in the Intensive Care Unit and in the Medicine for Older People Department.
