Geriatrics - Delta Hospital

Our geriatrics department caters to the specific needs of older people, with a focus on their physical, psychological and social well-being. During their stay, your loved one will be cared for by a multidisciplinary team and medical staff, ensuring safety, comfort, independence and quality of life.

Our Services

The geriatric department cares for elderly people with specific medical needs. We provide comprehensive medical care for loss of independence, memory disorders, malnutrition, polypharmacy and other age-related issues. The multidisciplinary team comprises doctors, nurses, care assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, dieticians, social workers and other support professionals.

For certain non-urgent issues, we offer a day hospital service.
Assessments include:

  • cognitive disorders,
  • recurrent falls,
  • loss of independence
  • oncogeriatric assessments

Medical and paramedical interventions are carried out over the course of a day, with a report sent to the patient’s GP.

Our mobile team assesses elderly patients in non-geriatric wards. It provides tailored care recommendations to prevent functional decline and prepare for a return home.

We collaborate with several nursing and care homes (MRS) to ensure continuity of care. Geriatric consultations can be arranged in certain MRS at the request of the attending doctor.

Practical information

To ensure that everyone receives the care, rest and recuperation they need, we ask you to observe the following visiting hours and to limit visits to a reasonable extent.

Visiting hours are:

  • 12 noon to 8 pm for single rooms
  • 2 pm to 8 pm for shared rooms

You will be asked to leave the patient’s room whilst care is being provided or for operational reasons.

If you wish to obtain medical information regarding the patient’s condition, please make an appointment with the ward secretary.

Appointments are held in the afternoons. Contact by telephone is also possible. Please leave your contact details with the secretary, who will pass them on. The doctor will then contact you.

Patient telephones:

If you wish to contact the patient by telephone, telephones are available for them to use during the call. Please ask the ward for the numbers.

Does a family member live abroad or is unable to travel? We can arrange video calls by appointment. Please do not hesitate to contact the ward.

Each room has a television (headphones are available for patients in twin rooms).

It is advised not to keep any valuables or money. If you do have any, there are combination lockers available, as well as a built-in safe drawer in the bedside table (if you need help operating the electronic locks, please do not hesitate to ask us).

You may bring food and drink for your relative in quantities and textures suitable for their condition. Please speak to the nurses, who will advise you or provide medical instructions. The bedside table is equipped with a small fridge.

The clinic respects your views and beliefs. Representatives of various faiths have free access to patients who have requested this from the nursing staff.

A chiropodist can be arranged upon request to the staff and subject to medical approval.

Meals are served around 12 noon and 5.30 pm. A family member’s presence, subject to medical approval, can be an excellent way to stimulate the patient’s appetite and make this important moment more enjoyable.

À la carte by Sodexo” is a concept that offers the opportunity to choose meals according to preference. The selection available on the app is tailored to nutritional needs and/or medical conditions. A hostess visits the ward so that patients can place their meal orders.

Discharge is organised by the social worker, who contacts all external parties involved. It is prepared in collaboration with the team members, the patient and their relatives for 11am. A medical report, along with all necessary documents, will be provided upon discharge. It is strongly recommended that families and/or relatives collect non-essential belongings the day before discharge.
